Halfpenny ruled out of 6 Nations

Wales full-back Leigh Halfpenny is set to miss out on the 2016 Six Nations after having reconstructive knee surgery on an injury sustained in Wales Rugby World Cup warm-up match against Italy.

His injury has caused many to debate whether manager Warren Gatland made the correct decision in playing him in the final warm-up match.

Stu Forster/Getty Images SportHalfpenny described the moment that the injury occurred: “I heard something snap and I just remember being on the floor in agony.”

His recovery timescale has been given as between 6-8 months, ruling him out of Wales next two major tournaments.

The Toulon player has tweeted a picture from his hospital bed thanking his fans for their support and messages. The 29-year-old’s replacement has been pinpointed as Liam Williams, who has not played since having surgery on his foot in June.

Halfpenny has scored 508 points in his 62 caps for Wales, making him Wales third-highest points scorer of all time.
