Romania player proposes on Wembley pitch

It was an emotional roller-coaster of a day for Romania scrum-half Florin Surugiu today.

He started the day with a horrible 44-10 drubbing by Ireland today, however, the day will still be remembered by him for one amazing reason. He got engaged.

After the end of their loss, Surugiu proposed to his girlfriend on the Wembley pitch, and, she said yes. A day that he will remember for the rest of his life, for the right reasons – despite his countries defeat.

Whilst surrounded by his team, Surugiu bent down into the one knee position and asked his girlfriend the big question you only ask once, ‘will you marry me’. To which she obligingly said ‘yes’.

“This was planned and we knew he would do it. I congratulated him,” Romania captain Mihai Macovei told reporters.

“I’m looking forward to them getting engaged.”

The Romanian head coach Lynn Howells did attempt to joke about the situation, claimed he tried to talk him out of it (At least, I hope he was joking).

“I tried to advise him not to. She said yes. It’s probably too romantic for me but I’m sure for her it was very romantic and she enjoyed every minute,” the Welshman said.
