RFU deny Cheika contact

According to Daily Mail, a Rugby Football Union (RFU) spokesman has stated that there has been no contact with Australia boss Michael Cheika, despite reports out of Australia suggesting RFU president Jason Leonard had done so.

Cheika is contracted with Australia until 2017, but interest has grown for his services after a good showing at the World Cup where Australia lost in the Final.

There has been much speculation about a potential replacement for England coach Stuart Lancaster after England’s loss in the group stages made them the worst performing host nation in the tournaments history.

England has already been linked with multiple coaches including current Ireland boss Joe Schmidt and former South Africa coach Nick Mallett. Although multiple sources have also suggested Cheika as a possible candidate, it appears as though there has been no contact made with him about a potential job.

A panel of five men reviewing Englands World Cup letdown is set to report their findings in a weeks time.
