Ulster vs Stormers URC preview as the sides clash at the Affidea Stadium in Belfast.

Ulster currently sit eighth in the URC table and, if things finish as they are, would be in the final position, which would secure a playoff place. They are still only within four points of fifth, and a home win could see them shoot to security for the playoffs. However, defeat could spell disaster for the Irish province are only three points ahead of Connacht, who sit outside the playoff places in ninth.

The Stormers currently sit top of the table on 56 points. They are one point ahead of Glasgow and only three points ahead of Leinster and the Lions, who play each other this weekend. With a 12-point gap between them and Connacht, they have guaranteed themselves a place in the Champions Cup next season and the playoffs.

Ulster had been in great league form, but since the Challenge Cup knockouts kicked in, they have struggled in the league. They lost their last two URC matches to interpro rivals, Leinster and Munster. They did, however, book a place in the Challenge Cup final with a 29-12 win over the Exeter Chiefs. The game was relatively close in the first-half. A Nathan Doak penalty on the stroke of half-time put them 10-7 ahead. Ulster would score three second-half tries to put them 29-7 in front. A late try for Campbell Ridl brought the game back to 29-12.

The Stormers suffered a disappointing exit in the Champions Cup to Toulon and followed this up with a defeat to Connacht at home. In the last round, they made a strong statement win against the Glasgow Warriors to move above the then league leaders in the table. They took an early lead and were 24-5 ahead after 30 minutes. They then scored another three second-half tries and won 48-12.
