  • Munster will travel to South Africa to play the Bulls on Saturday lunchtime.
  • Jack Crowley will miss the match due to an ongoing leg injury.
  • Tadhg Beirne will also miss the quarterfinal.

Munster have been handed a double injury blow ahead of their URC quarter-final against the Bulls.

Jack Crowley and Tadgh Beirne will not be available to play against the Bulls this Saturday.

Update on Crowley’s injury

Pat McCarry has shared the injury update, confirming that Crowley’s absence is due to nerve issues along with his leg injury.

Clayton McMillan gave an update, saying, “Clearly, it’s something a little bit obscure. Something that comes and goes. A little bit more investigation is required.”

Later in the interview, the head coach was asked if Crowley could see a specialist and be available for a potential semi-final.

McMillan commented that all those options were being explored.

Importance of Crowley and Beirne to Munster’s success

Crowley and Beirne are not only key players for Munster but also for Ireland. Crowley has earned his spot as Ireland’s number 10 after a long competition with Sam Prendergast. He ran an assured set of performances that helped Ireland to the Triple Crown.

When Crowley has been absent, Munster have turned to JJ Hanrahan in the 10 shirt. Hanrahan by no means a bad player, but hasn’t been able to manage a game to the same level as Crowley can.

Beirne has been one of Ireland’s most consistent performers for the last five years if not more. He also leads Munster through his actions and by his demeanour. This will be a huge loss for Munster as they head to South Africa this week.

Any travelling side to South Africa will go in as underdogs, but with these injuries it will be a difficult challenge for Munster to overcome.
